This master thesis is a conversion and renovation of a listed barn in Zirndorf, taking into account energy-efficient planning, construction and restoration, as well as ecological aspects. In the future, this barn shall be an essential part of the “Gasthof und Gästehaus Bub”, in the form of a central reception for the surrounding holiday flats and apartments. It will also contain a public café and a breakfast area for the in-house guests.
The two themes of preservation of historical monuments and energy-efficient refurbishment complement each other perfectly in the concept. The result is a design that emphasises all the advantages of the existing building and underlines them with new modern elements. Also, the history of Zirndorf is to be brought closer to the guest through historical and historic room objects.
