Demographic changes in the industrial nations and the individualisation and mobilisation of society are changing the demands on architectural spaces.
Among other things, society is demanding that work and family life be compatible for men and women, that the spatial environment provides psychological and educational support for individual lifestyles and improve the quality of life of the users, and that old and sick people can live a largely self-determined life inadequately designed rooms in conjunction with medical aids. In this way, architects and interior designers also rethink their tasks at the points of contact between people and space and develop new spatial solutions.
Contents
The Master’s specialisation “social aspects: the human space” qualifies students in a special way to work on the social aspects of interior design. In the course of their studies, three very different approaches to the topic are combined. Firstly, the students acquire a sound scientific basis for the sociological and psychological aspects of the subject area, secondly, they sensitise their sensory perceptions, especially in the visual, acoustic and haptic areas, and thirdly, they develop the necessary design, communication and procedural implementation skills on the basis of a practical project. The aim is to concretize and differentiate the rational and emotional experiences and insights into the different levels of meaning in such a way that design requirements can be formulated and implemented.
It is planned to set up a perception laboratory for the examination of proposals for space and use in accordance with the specific target groups.
Study goals
After completing their studies, Master’s students with this specialization in human space are able to recognize, evaluate and relate the different aspects of social spaces. The graduates recognise the different needs of the users involved and are able to propose well-founded solutions for complex room uses in their design proposals and translate them into a meaningful design concept. As team leaders, they can develop a real project and plan its implementation independently.
